Test your personal defence profile
The following test helps to determine what your preferred defence mechanism is. Everyone of us engages in all three defences, but there is a difference in the frequency with which we tend to employ either one or the other defence mechanism. The following test can help you take a closer look at your defences, so you can learn what your preferred defence is.
On a scale of 1-10, rate the degree to which you think the statement describes you. 1 indicates not at all, 10 indicates completely (if you want you can write down the numbers that apply to you in the boxes).
It is in your own interest to be as honest as you can. You do not have to share your answers or the fact that you have done this test with anyone. It is difficult to be honest about defences, because they are not our most flattering side. So search deep inside you for the true answer, even when you would rather not admit it, not even to yourself. Remember that when you are doing this, you are taking important steps towards healing. If you realise that while doing the test you are making the outcome more positive than it actually is (even if it is only a little bit) this points towards defences that are being set to work.
